Thinking about going back to school to get your MBA? Seeing that there are so many on line MBA universities now, it’s not surprising if you are. But there are some things you should think about before starting to apply to programs.
On line MBA Universities: Is Getting Your MBA Worth it?
First, are you at the ideal point in your career or your education when getting an MBA is a good idea? Is it better to get your MBA right after finishing your bachelor’s, or should you get some experience under your belt first? Typically, it’s a good idea enter the job market and get your feet wet. Partly because the best MBA programs aren’t that interested in candidates without some experience in the field, and also because an MBA degree holder without any career experience will find it harder to get a job.
If you’ve been out on the job market a while, you should think about how going back to school will affect your career. Are you going to apply to on line MBA universities with programs that will allow you to work through school, and if not, is this a good time to pause your career? On line MBA universities do have more options for pace and structuring of courses, so consider all your available options carefully before you apply.
Second, is an MBA really worth the investment? You really have to have a good idea of your job prospects-that means not just checking out articles on the subject but researching the available statistics in YOUR area, for available openings, education level of applicants, and salary medians. Remember, it’s not just about how much more you’ll make after getting a degree from one of the on line MBA universities. You have to consider the cost of the degree itself, too.
